An existing hotel near Stockholm Arlanda Airport has started welcoming in guests under the Scandic moniker after being rebranded.
Located in the fast-growing Arlanda Airport City hub, this 150-room scheme is the first hotel in the Swedish market that Scandic has launched close to one of Swedavia’s airports.
A strategic opening for Scandic
The opening of Scandic Arlandastad, which neighbours Stockholm Arlanda Airport and the Scandinavian XPO conference centre, follows the rebrand of a hotel opened in 2016 by another operator. Scandic signed an agreement to take it over in November 2020.
“For some time, we’ve wanted to establish ourselves at or in close proximity to Arlanda Airport,” said Peter Jangbratt, head of Sweden at Scandic Hotels. “As we’ve now found a good solution together with the property owner through a revenue-based lease with a reasonable distribution of risk and a hotel in great condition, it’s a good investment for us to make.”
“I am very pleased that for a long time to come, Scandic Arlandastad will be an important part of strengthening Scandic’s position in the Greater Stockholm area and a key component in the business development around Arlanda Airport City,” added Petra Lindholm, general manager at Scandic Arlandastad. “Above all, I look forward to welcoming new and returning guests to a new Scandic Arlandastad.”
A stylish and accessible hotel
The hotel is distinguished by its Scandinavian design – expect to see natural, light-coloured wood alongside textiles in subdued tones. Facilities here include a sauna for guests to relax in after a long journey, while a free shuttle bus whisks them to and from the airport. Moreover, 18 of the property’s guest rooms have been specially designed as accessible rooms with dedicated handicapped parking.
In the summer, the property will be tested for compliance with the new environmental and climate requirements of the Nordic region’s official certification, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. So far, 83 of Scandic’s 85 Swedish hotels have achieved this certification.
