The Hinteregger family, longtime owners of the Dolomites resort Sonnwies, is launching a new hotel collection called SAN SONNEA. The group starts with three properties in Northern Italy, mixing a rebrand, a new adults-only lodge, and a lakeside newcomer.
A Rebrand and Two New Properties
Sonnwies, known for more than 20 years as a family resort in the Dolomites, is being renamed SAN SONNEA Family Dolomites. It stays the flagship of the collection.
Two more properties join it:
- SAN SONNEA Lodge Dolomites, an adults-only retreat opening later this year in Val di Funes.
- Borgo SAN SONNEA Lake Garda, a smaller property set among olive groves on Lake Garda.
The family says future properties will join the collection over time, each shaped by its own location, but following the same approach to service and design.
What’s New at the Flagship
SAN SONNEA Family Dolomites is adding three new things this year, each aimed at a different part of the guest experience, from riding lessons to spa treatments to private places to stay.
- The first is an Equestrian Center, which includes stables for Haflinger horses and an indoor riding arena. There’s also a lounge for riders to relax in between lessons. The center runs riding programs for children, built around building confidence and comfort around animals.
- The second addition is a Forest Spa, opening this summer. The spa’s main feature is an outdoor onsen pool that looks out over the forest. Alongside the pool, the spa offers treatments that use alpine plants and programming built around mindfulness.
- The third addition is Forest Villas, a set of multi-bedroom houses built into the woods surrounding the resort. They’re set to open in August. Even though the villas sit apart from the main resort, guests staying in them will still have full access to the restaurants and other facilities on the property.
Owner Thoughts
Anna Hinteregger, the owner, said the new collection reflects how the family believes people want to travel now. She said, “In a world that rarely slows down, we wanted to create places where nature sets the pace, where every stay encourages genuine connection—with the landscape, with one another, and with ourselves. What began with Sonnwies has grown into a collection of destinations that share this philosophy, each expressed through its own character, community, and sense of place. No matter which SAN SONNEA destination guests choose, they can expect the same thoughtful, deeply personal hospitality and attentive service that has always been at the heart of our family’s approach to welcoming travelers.”
The launch marks the family’s move from running a single resort to managing a small group of properties, while keeping the business under family ownership.
