Showcasing the work of architect Christoph Ingenhoven and landscape designer Enzo Enea, the city’s newest property Ruby Ella celebrates a special era in German broadcasting history.

Munich-based Ruby Hotels’ latest outpost places guests in the former Capitol area of Cologne, famous for its unrivalled history when it comes to TV studios and entertainment.

A strong connection to the area

The 11th hotel in the Ruby Group, Ruby Ella focuses on immersing guests in Cologne’s roots as an important media hub where Harald Schmidt and Stefan Raab once hosted their popular late-night shows. This concept is neatly encapsulated in the 186-key property’s motto, ‘Ruby goes Late-Night’.

Architect Christoph Ingenhoven has designed this new building for optimum sustainability, with landscape designer Enzo Enea planting 100 trees and shrubs in a staggered pattern across the property. The scheme follows Ruby’s Lean Luxury philosophy of pairing a location in the heart of the city with top design and high-quality amenities, while cutting out non-essentials.

“The location of our Ruby Ella between the Belgischen Viertel and the Gerlingquartier is perfect for discovering the Cologne lifestyle on your own,” said Cologne-born hotel manager Daniel Suré. “Whether on a business trip or a city break, in just a few steps you’re right in the middle of the action.”

A new social hub for guests and locals

The hotel’s 186 guestrooms are spread over six floors, and this accommodation is joined by a first-floor check-in area, bar and café. The Ruby Ella Bar is open 24 hours a day for both guests and locals, adding to the lifestyle offering in this vibrant area.

Ruby Ella’s public areas are distinguished by large illuminated signs, a typical talk-show stage and other vintage furnishings and props, such as an original camera crane and suspended show-band instruments.

In its prime location, the hotel provides easy access to countless restaurants, cafés and shops, as well as cinemas and clubs. It’s also just five minutes away from the main train station and 25 minutes from Cologne Bonn Airport.
