Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is teaming up with real-estate developer Grupo Sordo Madaleno to run a new Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos-designed property in the Mexican capital.

Grupo Sordo Madaleno has appointed Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to operate a forthcoming 133-key property in Mexico City’s flourishing Polanco district.

Rosewood’s Mexican expansion

Following the deal, Rosewood Mexico City is set to join the ultra-luxury brand’s other Mexican properties in Los Cabos, Riviera Maya and San Miguel de Allende, as well as the 2023-opening Rosewood Mandarina. This new hotel will be located within walking distance of the luxury shopping district Avenida Presidente Masaryk, along with cultural institutions such as Museo Soumaya.

“A thriving hub of art and culture, Mexico City reflects many of Rosewood’s defining pillars,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “We are thrilled to introduce our A Sense of Place philosophy to visitors and locals with the opening of Rosewood Mexico City, wherein the hotel will embody the distinct sensibilities of the destination all while presenting one-of-a-kind ambience and style combined with unparalleled quality and personalised service.”

“As we embark on this new project in Mexico City, we could not think of a more suited partner than Rosewood Hotels & Resorts,” added Javier Sordo Madaleno, vice president of Grupo Sordo Madaleno. “We look forward to showcasing the incomparable offerings of Mexico’s vibrant capital through the Rosewood lens and the debut of this world-class hotel.”

A welcome addition to Antara

This highly anticipated property is being designed by Mexico City-based architecture firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos.

The property will take up the grand tower of a newbuild expansion to the mixed-use scheme Antara, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The development houses office space along with luxury retail, restaurants and entertainment.

It’s envisaged that the new Rosewood hotel will house 133 guestrooms, including 35 suites, as well as four drinking and dining venues – a poolside bar and grill, all-day bistro, living room and speciality restaurant.

On top of this, the hotel will be home to an outpost of Rosewood’s wellness concept Asaya, integrating two pools, a fitness centre and a wellbeing centre with treatment rooms and hydrotherapy areas. The hotel’s event space is to span a total of 1,270 sq m.

When it finally opens in 2024, this hotel is due to become the 20th Rosewood property in the Americas.
