Apron impresses on the plate and behind the scenes by combining theatre elements with delicious food.
“New Viennese weave, brass and marble optics, private booths” – This was Anna Burghardt’s summary of the Apron’s interior in a recent review published the critic.
Blending the love for the theatre and culinary arts
The combination of varying styles was well received at the Austrian Interior Design Awards where the restaurant in the Vienna Hotel am Konzerthaus was honoured for its interior design in the gastronomy and hotel industry category.
The Viennese architectural office BWM Architekten is behind the design, which was selected as the winner from a total of 278 projects.
The jury praised the “successful material transitions” and the “overall gastronomic experience” in particular.
A treat for the eyes and the palate
The Apron’s design uses elements of the world of theatre, such as panel parquet flooring, brass, marble, velvet and coffered and mirrored ceilings.
Already crowned with a Michelin star, the Apron’s culinary front is headed up by chef Stefan Speiser and Benjamin Schröder who oversees the pastry department.
Together they have developed a menu with locally inspired dishes featuring common favourites such as steak tartare and Viennese escalope as well as game dishes and vegetarian options.
Many vegetables are sourced locally but combined with flavours from around the world to create a well-rounded and innovative culinary experience.
Let’s take a look at a few other projects currently underway in Vienna:
