Recap: Hottest hotel openings in June 2021
Milestone properties for Angsana, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and Hyatt Regency make up this month’s pick of the world’s most notable hotel openings.
From Corfu’s lush coast to historic Madrid and the foot of the Atlas Mountains, each of these three hotels provides a connection with its captivating surroundings.
Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa
Banyan Tree Holdings launched its flagship European property, Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa, this month. The new resort lies within a hillside estate of Akra Punta Bay, near Benitses Village and close to Achilleion Palace. Lush green landscapes, Mediterranean gardens and olive groves are the backdrop for 159 guestrooms and suites, along with 37 one- to four-bedroom pool villas featuring outdoor pavilions and terracotta rooftops.
Luxury amenities here include four signature restaurants and seven bars overlooking the sea and countryside, from Greek fine-dining destination Botrini’s to Asian fusion restaurant Koh and contemporary tavern Sofrito. During a stay, guests can unwind at Angsana Spa, where 11 treatment rooms are joined by an indoor pool and juice bar. An outdoor infinity pool, a second indoor pool, water sports facilities, a yoga platform and a gym also feature.
Meanwhile, kids can join Banyan Tree Holdings’ Rangers’ Club, and events are hosted in six dedicated venues from boardrooms and ballrooms to a sky bar and rooftop terrace.
Atocha Hotel Madrid
Hilton Worldwide debuted the Tapestry Collection brand in Europe with the June opening of Atocha Hotel Madrid. This 46-key hotel reflects the history of the area, with inspiration taken from the esparto- or atocha-grass weaving that’s traditionally used for basketry in southern Spain.
The nearby Madrid Atocha train station was once the entry point for esparto products coming into the city. Recognising this connection, the interior design team – which included experts from IK Interiorismo – has incorporated nature-inspired decor and rattan furniture throughout.
Among the amenities at this upscale property are four Five Feet to Fitness rooms offering Hilton’s in-room wellness concept, with fitness equipment enabling guests to work out in private. The hotel is ideally located, within easy reach of famous landmarks like Palacio de Cristal and the museums that make up Madrid’s Golden Triangle of Art.
Hyatt Regency Taghazout, Morocco
The third Hyatt Hotels Corporation-branded property in Morocco, the June-opened Hyatt Regency Taghazout sits at the foot of the Atlas Mountains and offers panoramic sea views from its beachfront position on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s part of a wider development that also boasts a golf course, tennis academy and beach club, while Agadir is just a 25-minute drive away.
At the hotel, social and corporate events are catered for in several function rooms – not least a spacious ballroom.
The 190 guestrooms, which include 12 Regency Suites, six Executive Terrace Suites and ten Terrace Suites, are joined by luxury facilities spanning wellness and gastronomy. Its impressive F&B programme encompasses the Moroccan-influenced Citron Brûlé, the French and Italian Riviera-inspired Sud, Km 17 and the La Vie en Blue pool bar, as well as a Lobby Bar. The hotel’s wellness space, Ilel Spa, is also home to an array of amenities, such as a sauna, a whirlpool and hamman, two swimming pools and a fitness centre.
