An eye-catching trio of milestone properties from global giants IHG, Hilton Worldwide and Pestana Group stand out as this month’s top hotel openings.
Ibiza, New York and Cambridge are the appealing settings for three July-opened hotels that have made an immediate impact thanks to their unique concepts and locally inspired design.
Six Senses Ibiza
Six Senses made its entry to Ibiza this month with a 25-acre coastal retreat that combines hospitality with sustainability and a focus on community. Six Senses Ibiza in the secluded Xaracca Bay pairs a luxury resort experience with programming that encompasses music, art, sustainable fashion, longevity, wellness and farm-to-table dining. The property has been conceived by architect and developer Jonathan Leitersdorf as a year-round destination inspired by the island’s traditions and values.
Here on the island’s northern tip, visitors are accommodated across 116 guestrooms and suites, including cave suites built into the cliffs, and encouraged to explore spaces like the Six Senses Spa and the resort’s flagship dining destination HaSalon Ibiza, highlighting organic, locally sourced ingredients. This restaurant and bar is joined by a Farmer’s Market, intimate dining venue The Orchard, and entertainment areas including Live Cave, Twin Bar and Farmacy Bar. Interestingly, the sustainably designed scheme is the Balearic Islands’ first resort and residential community to achieve BREEAM certification.
Pestana CR7 Times Square, New York City
Footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Portuguese hotel group Pestana have just opened the first Pestana CR7 lifestyle hotel in the US. The new Pestana CR7 Times Square places guests within easy reach of the city’s attractions, business districts and hip Hudson Yards area. It contains 176 guestrooms in total – some with Hudson River views and all with fun details that embrace the brand’s spirit.
This accommodation is joined by Seven Bar & Restaurant, combining an open bar with an intimate restaurant within the lobby area, alongside a 24-hour reception and fully equipped fitness centre. The contemporary environment has been designed for both work and play by New York-based studio VLDG. Among the many notable features here are custom pendant lighting inspired by the pattern of a football and a modern interpretation of the traditional Portuguese art of azulejos by Brooklyn artist Ai Campbell.
The Fellows House Cambridge, Curio Collection by Hilton
Designed by Twenty2Degrees, the first Curio Collection by Hilton property in the famous university city of Cambridge is now accepting both short and long stays in its 131 guestrooms and apartments. The Fellows House Cambridge’s room types, ranging from king rooms and studios to one-bedroom apartments and Fellows Duplex apartments, are named after notable people associated with the city, from Isaac Newton and Rudyard Kipling to Antony Gormley. All studios and apartments here come with fully equipped kitchens.
In terms of facilities, there’s The Folio Kitchen & Bar, coffee shop-cum-wine bar The Sage of Cambridge, an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a sauna and a steam room, while meetings can be hosted in the ten-seat Hawking Suite boardroom. The onsite car park comes with electric charging ports, meanwhile, and bicycles are available for hire too. Locally curated artwork and a programme of experiences further help connect guests with the rest of the city.
