The new Wanda Realm resort in the Chinese city of Chengdu is now welcoming guests
August saw hoteliers determined to capitalise on whatever could be salvaged from the high season as the world slowly came to terms with Covid19, and the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows plenty of stylish new properties opened during the month.
Of course, August marks the end of the high season for tourism in many markets, and hotel groups have been pushing hard to launch new properties wherever possible to help them attract some much-needed business. Here’s our rundown of the month’s hottest openings.
Chengdu Wanda Realm
This five-star luxury project is located within Sunac Resort Chengdu, along with the Panda Theme Hotel. A 235-key resort, it enjoys convenient access from the bullet train as well as the highway and is 55km from central Chengdu. The hotel benefits from its proximity to a wealth of natural amenities, including Zhaogong Mountain, Panda Valley, Qingcheng Mountain and the tributaries of Minjing River. The design concept for the property is the ‘Qingcheng post-house’, a contemporary interpretation of local vernacular materials and patterns, in particular traditional grey tiles and walls.
Four Points By Sheraton Chengdu Tianfu New Area
Another exciting property opened this month in Chengdu, cementing the city’s status as a hotspot of investment and development. Four Points By Sheraton Chengdu Tianfu New Area is a four-star offering ideal for the modern traveller. This hotel’s perfect guest is someone who wants the comfort of their routine, but also everything on hand to break it should they wish to do so. A 169-key scheme in Chengdu’s Tianfu New Area, this Four Points by Sheraton hotel boasts both Four Points workouts, a personalised training service to keep visitors fit on the road, and the Best Brews programme, which features local craft beers on tap.
InterContinental Chongqing at Raffles Square
Located on the famous Chaotianmen Square in the Chinese city of Chongqing, the InterContinental Chongqing at Raffles Square is a luxury five-star hotel boasting 380 rooms overlooking the iconic Yangtze River. This spectacular hotel has an eye-catching architectural configuration, with the horizontal skyscraper The Crystal commanding the skyline of this waterfront development. The hotel’s highlight is perhaps the glass-fronted events space, which affords guests unparalleled views out over the waterways below.
Ramada Encore Muscat Al Ghubra
The sophisticated Ramada Encore Muscat Al Ghubra is a 200-key hotel under the Ramada by Wyndham brand, which has just opened in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The hotel is in the middle of all the action and conveniently located close to the opera house, numerous malls and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. A newbuild, four-star property, guests can enjoy relaxing in the spacious and stylish rooms and suites or take full advantage of its state-of-the-art amenities, including a fitness centre, restaurant and rooftop pool.
Hampton by Hilton London, Ealing
Finally, August also saw the arrival of Hampton by Hilton London, Ealing, a 182-room hotel in the west of the UK’s capital city. The scheme, which replaces a redundant office building, is intended to complement the development of new commercial space next door. Each modern guest room features a 55-inch HDTV and mini-fridge, plus access to a 24-hour fitness centre, while corporate customers may also want to make use of the contemporary meeting room onsite.
