Yes, it’s been a crazy month with the new realities of Covid19 becoming ever more present, but let’s stop and applaud these hotel openings of April 2020, according to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS database.
April 2020 has been wild for reasons that we could never have predicted a few months ago, but there were still some stellar hotels that opened this month. The numbers are obviously down on a regular April opening schedule, which in many places marks the start of tourist high season, but nonetheless, there were some that made it through. Check out our rundown of the hottest openings of the past four weeks.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Alice Springs
This 4-star, 235-key hotel is located in the Australian outback, a desert property set against the majestic backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges. The luxury eco-resort reopened this month after an extensive refurbishment which involved renovating the guest rooms, along with their private balconies. Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, as well as access to the hotel’s many amenities, including a 24 hour gym and fitness centre, a heated outdoor pool which overlooks the manicured landscaping, and restaurants on site that showcase contemporary Australian cuisine.
Hard Rock Hotel Amsterdam American
Hard Rock Hotels has been on a winning streak this year, and one of their latest openings was a luxury 5-star hotel on the lively Leidseplein Square in the Dutch cultural capital of Amsterdam. This opening will see the transformation of a historic Art Deco building from 1900, formerly known as the American Hotel, into a modern Hard Rock property, which will boast 173 rooms with newly renovated interiors that reflect the decadence and edginess of the Hard Rock brand, while maintaining the property’s period features and charm. The hotel is also within walking distance of some of the city’s most popular attractions, including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.
Marriott Executive Apartments Chongqing
Adjoining the Ritz Carlton Hotel Chongqing via a connected podium deck, this collection of 149 studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments caters to business travelers and corporate guests who are visiting the Chinese city of Chongqing for work in one of the many areas of industry and commerce the city caters to. These serviced apartments offer extended stay guests a place to call home for the duration of their time in Chongqing, and are conveniently located close to international business, recreation and entertainment areas. Ideal for both individuals and families, the Executive Apartments offer guests access to the Resident Lounge, kids play area and fitness centre.
Occidental Diagonal 414
The conversion of this important property in Barcelona has finally reached completion, and the 102-key hotel opened its doors as the Occidental Diagonal 414 this month. Part of the Spanish Barcelo Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio, this new hotel is housed in what was once a 6-storey office building on Barcelona’s Avenida Diagonal into a 4-star boutique hotel.
Hotel Restaurante Mas Torrellas
The extension of this property on Spain’s Costa Brava will add an 18-hole golf course to the existing 32-room 4-star hotel. The Hotel Restaurante Mas Torrellas is located between the sea and the mountains in a quiet enclave that boasts a wealth of natural beauty. Set against a backdrop of verdant green hills and executed in a typical southern Spanish villa style, the golf course extension also sees the addition of a new building which will house further accommodations and a swimming pool and deck area.
