Raffles Singapore reopening highlights Accor’s luxury lineup for 2019
Raffles Singapore joins star-studded list of luxury Accor hotels opening next year.
In addition to Raffles Singapore, Accor is planning to reopen or debut a much longer list of high-end properties, including a Raffles in Maldives, the first Fairmont location in Rio de Janeiro, the redevelopment project of a Fairmont property located in Los Angeles’ Century Plaza, and an entirely new Sofitel hotel in Dubai.
If that’s not enough activity for 2019, Accor’s CEO of luxury brands, Chris Cahill, told the International Luxury Travel Market conference in Cannes, that the company had recently acquired 21c Museum Hotels. The new addition will soon be merged into M Gallery, an Accor brand that includes 100 existing properties with another 30 in development.
While some industry experts have wondered whether the company might transfer Sofitel Legends properties to the Raffles brand—or, for that matter, to any other Accor luxury brands—Cahill said that is not likely to happen at this time. In fact, there are currently no plans to add more Legend properties.
In early 2019, Cahill noted that Accor expects to announce its first Orient-Express hotel. He also predicted rapid growth for the company’s SO/ lifestyle luxury brand, which of late has added properties in global destinations like Berlin and St. Petersburg, Russia to its holdings.
The SO/ brand also has 15 hotels in its pipeline, in addition to seven that are currently open for guests.
Accor recently struck a deal to acquire a 50 percent stake in the sbe Entertainment Group. Cahill said this gives the company additional luxury brands plus locations throughout North America, including popular cities such as Miami, New York City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles
