The Raffles brand has launched a spectacular property featuring ornamental gardens and a 400-year old temple on a 21-acre private island in Udaipur – its first ever hotel in India.

Opened on 2 August 2021, this sprawling property combines western cultural references with Mughal architecture and Rajasthan’s royal heritage in a setting that’s reminiscent of a country estate.

An island sanctuary

Set amid manicured, ornamental gardens with views over the Udai Sagar lake, this new Raffles hotel provides a tranquil retreat that’s just a 20-minute drive, followed by a boat ride, from the airport. Fitting in with other members of the brand, Raffles Udaipur is designed to reflect the cultural heritage and natural beauty of its location, with experiences ranging from celestial cruises to yoga and guided farm tours.

Abhishek Sharma, general manager, said: “Whether you are looking for a rare place of extraordinary discovery or a romantic getaway with captivating sunsets, Raffles Udaipur is the ideal choice. With breath-taking views of the lake from every room, the chance for long, leisurely, romantic walks around our magnificent gardens, and experiences like stargazing and full moon rituals, we are a sanctuary for travellers on a quest for peace and rejuvenation.”

Puneet Dhawan, ‎senior vice president of operations in India and South Asia for Accor, added: “India is a strategic market with long-term growth potential for Accor and it’s an exciting time for us as we present the iconic Raffles brand to the ‘Venice of the East’. The rich cultural heritage, the regal past, and the grand architecture that gives the city its splendour all contribute to the Raffles Udaipur experience.

“Discerning travellers will now be able to experience the bespoke and immersive hospitality that is quintessentially Raffles. We look forward to warmly welcoming our guests and allowing them to discover what we have created, a confluence of Raffles’ global ethos and local Indian sensitivities.”

Gastronomy and wellness

Raffles Udaipur boasts 101 guestrooms, suites and signature suites that highlight the region’s royal heritage and elements of Mughal architecture, alongside handcrafted furniture and objects by local artisans. Jaw-dropping views of the lake and private gardens can be enjoyed from its many balconies and plunge pools.

The hotel’s gastronomic offering is led by culinary director Prasad Metrani. The Indian speciality restaurant, Sawai Kitchen, focuses on the reinvented recipes of royal households, while Harvest, which is set to open in October, provides a farm-to-table dining experience using produce from the estate’s farm.

Guests will be able to get hands on at the Rasoi cookery school, and pick up signature Raffles pastries as well as freshly baked bread and French desserts at The Raffles Patisserie. The F&B programme is elevated further by the cocktails and champagne and caviar menu of The Writers Bar and Indian spirits offering of the Long Bar. And a hallmark of the Raffles brand, the Long Bar, will serve the signature Udaipur Sling, representing the Singaporean classic with island ingredients.

During their stay, guests can unwind at The Raffles Spa, with authentic treatments and personalised wellness programmes alongside appealing amenities like a swimming pool and fitness centre. Events will be held in the 9,000 sq ft Grand Ballroom, complemented by a pre-function area, outdoor space and – last but not least – onsite temple.
