Radisson has announced plans to launch its Radisson Collection into Madrid, Spain with a new landmark property expected to open in 2027.
The hotel will be created from the transformation of a protected, landmark building with a central location on the city’s Alcala Street, close to avenues of luxury retail shops including Louis Vuitton and Cartier. The Generali building, built in the 1930s in the monumentalist style, has become well known in the city for its lavish statues, located both on the building facade and in its common areas.
Reusing a Madrid landmark
The makeover will retain the building’s distinctive elements including its main staircase and entrance hall. Upper floors will be converted to create a 154 room hotel, with the hotel reception and restaurant on the first floor. A stunning addition for guests will be the creation of a rooftop bar, facilitating 360 degree views across Madrid.
“The arrival of our lifestyle luxury Radisson Collection brand in Madrid will be a catalyst to accelerate the development of Radisson Hotel Group in Spain, where we currently have eight hotels in operation and now this landmark project under development,” said Federico Gonzalez, executive vice chairman of Radisson Hotel Group. “We are proud to debut this project alongside Generali, a strategic partner of the Group with whom we have already collaborated in Rome and Venice. This will be an iconic hotel in Madrid and a privileged destination for both local and international guests.”
Generali Real Estate will carry out the transformation of the building. As a major European real estate owner, the group has already worked with Radisson on other hotel projects including the Roma Antica hotel in Rome, and Palazzo Nani in Venice, both properties that are also part of the Radisson Collection. “We believe this is a great time to continue investing in Madrid, where we manage a high-quality real estate portfolio and, through our projects, contribute to the sustainable urban development of the city,” said Benedetto Giustiniani, head of Southern Europe at Generali Real Estate.
Expansion across EMEA
The Radisson Collection is growing at pace, with upcoming openings for 2025 including the Basilica Budapest in Hungary, Lincoln Casablanca in Morocco, Radisson Collection Lake Como and Radisson Collection National Resort, Brussels.
Further ahead, but already in the construction phase, is the 57 room Radisson Collection Paris, due to launch in early 2027. In Lagos, Nigeria, the brand has two projects lined up, in the Emerald Grand Hotel & Spa and Radisson Collection Ikoyi. In India, a second hotel for the brand, Radisson Collection Hyderabad is expected to open in 2026, joining the brand’s first property in the country, which recently opened in Srinagar.
