A high-profile development at the heart of Portugal’s bucolic Algarve region, Viceroy at Ombria Resort has been deservedly crowned our latest Project of the Week.
Viceroy Hotel Group is driving ahead with this exciting scheme, which features its very own 18-hole golf course.
Sustainability and exceptional design
The five-star Viceroy at Ombria Resort scheme, currently under construction on 150 acres of secluded land in the Algarve, is slated to make its debut in the third quarter of 2022. On a site located just 8 km north of Loulé, this hilltop resort-and-residences development started construction in 2019, following the beginning of ground excavations and geothermal system works in the summer of 2018.
WATG is designing the project in collaboration with Promontorio, blending a rural feel with thoughtful details.
The resort will house 76 luxurious guestrooms and suites, and these will be joined by 65 one- and two-bedroom branded residences. Both the resort and the residences are to be managed by Viceroy Hotel Group.
Reflecting the growing importance of sustainability in luxury hospitality, the resort will be able to call on a large geothermal system for renewable energy, along with solar panels, further helping to reduce its carbon footprint.
A lifestyle destination
Facilities at the Pontos Group-developed Viceroy at Ombria Resort will include restaurants and bars, a spa, healthcare and fitness space, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a kids’ zone, an astronomical observatory and a conference centre.
The Viceroy Residences at Ombria Resort, sold freehold, will be fitted with a kitchenette or fully fitted kitchen, as well as living space, bedrooms, bathrooms and terraces. Some of the residences will also have a private garden and pool or Jacuzzi, while residents will have access to all of the hotel’s facilities and services and benefit from property management.
The 18-hole, par-70 golf course, which has already been completed, was designed by Jorge Santana da Silva and spans 6,000 metres. A clubhouse will be built into the walls of an existing farm ruin and encompass a reception area, pro shop, sports bar, restaurant, outdoor terrace, gym, sauna, Jacuzzi and external pool.
