Our latest Project of the Week title goes to The Langham, Venice for its standout location within the former Casino Mocenigo on the iconic Venetian Lagoon.

This new waterfront hotel in one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations looks set to make a big splash when it finally opens to the public.

A fine heritage building

Currently under construction, The Langham, Venice will take over a building whose roots date back to the early 1600s, with original design details including frescoes depicting themes of music, poetry and love. Matteo Thun & Partners, known for its commitment to sustainability and aesthetic simplicity, is leading the architectural aspects of this significant conversion project for Langham Hospitality Group.

From its prime location on the south-eastern shore of Murano, guests will be able to easily explore Basilica dei Santa Maria e San Donato, Mueso del Vetro and several renowned foundries producing artisanal glass.

Enticing new F&B venues

The 138-room property will house two restaurants serving a range of culinary styles, as well as a cooking school giving guests invaluable insights into fine Italian cuisine. Alfresco bars, including a rooftop location, promise to give the property an even broader appeal.

Guests will also be able to unwind at the property’s Chuan Spa, which focuses on wellness therapies based on the ancient healing philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Additional facilities will include a fitness centre, ballroom and function space.

The scheme’s striking design will pair original details from this heritage property with modern elements, making the most of star features like its vast internal courtyard, which will host a swimming pool, outdoor dining areas and a carefully manicured garden.

The Langham, Venice is expected to open in the first quarter of 2023.
