Project of the Week: Royalton Chic Antigua

Our new Project of the Week is a complete transformation of a three star Dickenson Bay Beach resort in Antigua into a five star destination.

The site, on the north of the Caribbean island, was previously the midscale Halcyon Cove By Rex Resorts, but following a comprehensive overhaul and extension, it will become the luxury Royalton Chic Antigua.

Extensive renovations

Construction work began last year, and the reimagined resort is due to open by the end of this year as part of the Blue Diamond Resorts portfolio, the hotels and resorts division of Toronto, Canada-headquartered Sunwing Travel Group.

Some structures will be completely razed to make way for the Royalton Chic Resorts concept, which will comprise 227 rooms, including eight new water bungalows.

Overwater ‘diningtainment’

A range of gourmet dining experiences will be available at six reservation-free restaurants, including an overwater themed restaurant, exclusive to Royalton Chic Antigua. This restaurant will be constructed over the sea, providing guests with a ‘diningtainment’ concept, a mix between entertainment and dining.

Five bars will be part of the property to cater for refreshment needs, while relaxation facilities will comprise a beachfront pool, an onsite spa and a state of the art gym.

Third site

The beachfront resort will be an adults-only all inclusive site, following the success of the first two Royalton Chic properties in Cancun, Mexico and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Jordi Pelfort, president of hotels and resorts at Sunwing Travel Group, said: “Whether for relaxation or a lively luxury beach getaway, the ‘party your way’ concept that Royalton Chic Antigua will bring to this region is unique within the all-inclusive segment.

“We have been committed to delivering groundbreaking experiences to our guests and Royalton Chic Antigua will be no exception. We are thrilled about what this new property will mean for Antigua, as well as the Caribbean region.”
