Norway is gearing up to welcome its very first Radisson Red property – this 224-key newbuild with sustainable design at its heart is our latest Project of the Week.

The Norwegian capital of Oslo will soon be home to the country’s inaugural Radisson Red hotel, due to welcome guests in Q3 2021. We find out more about this exciting new property.

Radisson RED shines in new Oslo quarter

A daring new mixed-use building, Økern Portal, is in the process of being developed in Norway’s capital Oslo. As part of this scheme, Radisson Hospitality AB, part of Radisson Hotel Group, is bringing the first ever Radisson Red property to the country. Radisson Red Okern Oslo is a 224-key, four-star, newbuild hotel that is slated to open in the latter half of next year.

Økern Portal is perhaps the most exciting new development that Oslo has seen for some time, and Norway is often at the forefront of pioneering environmental design. This new project is positioning itself as the Scandinavian country’s most ‘future-oriented’ building, offering a mix of commercial, hospitality, and entertainment facilities.

Elie Younes, executive vice president, and chief development officer at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “We’re thrilled to bring the first Radisson Red to Norway and offer our guests this bold, playful brand in such an up-and-coming area of Oslo. It’s hugely exciting to be part of this highly innovative project – the perfect fit for Radisson Red.”

What to expect from Radisson Red Okern Oslo

Norway’s first Radisson Red property will be noteworthy for many reasons, not least the fact that it is aiming to achieve a BREAAM-Nor certification. This represents a very high standard of sustainable design that only a few hotels in Norway have managed to achieve, including the iconic Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel in Stavanger.

One of the hotel’s biggest highlights will be its expansive roof terrace, offering guests access to a beautiful garden and panoramic 360-degree views over Oslo, and inspired by European cities. This Radisson Red property will definitely offer something out of the ordinary, and is sure to be a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike.

The hotel will be operated by Radisson Hospitality AB under an international franchise agreement.
