A 222-key resort with a large outdoor lagoon pool in one of Thailand’s most popular tourism destinations, Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach is a well-deserved winner of our Project of the Week title.

Radisson Hotel Group is working to create a new upscale property in southern Thailand. We find out more about the resort, Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach, which will enjoy good connections to Phuket International Airport.

Lagoon life in Phuket with Radisson

In August 2019, Radisson announced the signing of an exciting new property in partnership with Thai-Chinese Property Holdings, a joint venture between APlan Properties and Chinese parties.

Speaking at the time, Katerina Giannouka, president, Asia Pacific, Radisson Hotel Group, said: “Phuket is the perfect fit for our upscale Radisson brand. The signing of this new property reflects our confidence in Thailand’s tourism industry and our strategy of introducing world-class hotels into Asia’s dynamic destinations, including major cities and popular resort destinations. We look forward to working with Thai-Chinese Property Holdings, as we bring this exciting project to life.”

Darren Judges, managing director, Thai-Chinese Property Holdings, added: “With Radisson Hotel Group’s experience and expertise, along with their world-renowned hotel brands, we are confident and delighted to be working with the team. Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach is poised to elevate the level of upscale hospitality in Phuket.”

One of the defining features of the resort, which is hoping to complete in early 2023, is the expansive outdoor lagoon pool, which will cover an area of 491 sq m. The hotel’s ground-floor guest rooms will have direct access out onto this watery oasis, while more than 20 of the suites will benefit from their very own private swimming pools.

Opportunity awaits on Mai Khao Beach

Phuket is the 11th most-visited destination on the planet, according to research conducted by Mastercard in 2018, making it an attractive proposition for investors. Some of the units at Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach will be available to buy under a sale-and-leaseback agreement. The units will then be put into a mandatory rental programme run by DMRD Asia, while the operation of the hotel will be managed by Radisson.

Marciano Birjmohun, managing director of DMRD Asia, elaborated on the programme in August 2019, saying: “More than being an upscale project, having a well-reputed developer and superb location, investors are now seeking projects that fit various lifestyles to ensure significant yield. Real estate projects these days, therefore, need to be adaptive and answer to various demands of consumers. Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach manages to bring all of these essential components together, plus its rare and strategic location right on the beach.

“Above all, Radisson is a world-renowned brand. It is well-received globally, specifically in India and China, both of which are our main targets in terms of investment and tourism, while Thai investors are also one of our potential markets.”

The complex is organised into eight low-rise buildings, featuring 222 contemporary rooms and suites, 110 units of which are available for freehold ownership to foreigners. There will also be numerous F&B outlets onsite, a fitness centre and spa that boasts a traditional sauna and steam room, and a rooftop swimming pool and lounge.
