Project of the Week: Radisson Blu Timisoara, Romania
by Lauren Jade Hill | 10 May 2021 | Project of the Week, Projects
A key part of the ISHO neighbourhood of Timisoara, this forthcoming Radisson Blu hotel fully deserves its status as our latest Project of the Week.
The under-construction 160-key property – housing a range of dining, drinking, fitness and event facilities – will place guests within walking distance of the architecturally rich city’s old town.
A significant new development
In January 2018, it was announced that a new Radisson Blu hotel had been signed for Timisoara. Work is now underway to create a luxury scheme in this social, economic and cultural hub of western Romania.
Expected to reach completion in the first quarter of 2023, the forthcoming property is to be an integral component of a wider development of the ISHO neighbourhood. Indeed, the neighbourhood’s developer Ovidiu Șandor believes that this hotel will become a reference for the region and play a key role in the growth of the city.
Andreescu and Gaivoronschi Associated Architects is behind the hotel’s architecture and Blochers Partners is designing the interiors.
A base for getting to know Timisoara
On opening, Radisson Blu Timisoara will comprise 160 guestrooms, along with a signature restaurant and bar concept, a 24/7 fitness centre and 1,000 sq m of meeting space including a ballroom.
When the signing of this hotel was first announced, Elie Younes, executive vice president and chief development officer of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, spoke of the city’s significant development potential, describing Timisoara as an attractive destination for the hospitality group.
The scheme is appealingly located within walking distance of the old town, which is widely celebrated for its 19th-century architecture dating back to the time of the Habsburg Empire.
