Our five star Project of the Week this week is dedicated to relaxation in the historical resort of Abastumani, Georgia, a region famous for its curative climate.

Paragraph Wellness Resort & Spa Abastumani will become part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection when it opens its doors in Q4 2023.

Eight storey story

The hotel will showcase spectacular views over the Samtskhe-Javakheti region’s coniferous forest, with a construction spread over eight levels.

Local firm Hausart Architect and Development has designed the building while London-based Studio Moren (formerly Dexter Moren Associates) has been working with the Georgian Co-Investment Fund on the interior design of this newbuild luxury resort and spa.

Natural panorama

Once complete, the hotel will comprise 114 guestrooms and 24 suites, extensive lounges, bar, all day dining restaurant, spa, swimming pool and gym, ballroom and conference suite as well as a rooftop bar and terrace with a 360° aerial panorama.

Three key concept narratives that Studio Moren is infusing the interior design with are ‘the power of nature’, ‘the hotel’s ‘off the beaten track’ location and ‘local identity’, using a neutral, tonal and healing base palette paired with harmonious symmetry and pattern to enhance the restorative guest experience.

Four floors house the public areas, with the guestrooms and suites residing in the remaining four. The reception, lobby lounge, bar, wine cellar, games room, library, all day dining and private dining are all located on the ground level.

Basement wellness

A substantial spa is situated on level minus one, parts of which are set into the hillside. Facilities include a large reception and consultation space, 12 treatment rooms, a private hydrotherapy suite, separate wet and dry relaxation rooms, sauna, steam and hammam, gym an indoor swimming pool as well as outdoor deck space with jacuzzi over two levels where guests will be able to benefit most from the pine dust-filled air.

Level minus two is where the conferencing and event spaces are located. The double height ballroom with views of the forest and valley sits alongside three large flexible meeting and event spaces as well as extensive breakout lounge spaces.
