An exclusive beachfront retreat on the southern shores of Grand Cayman, this inviting Mandarin Oriental scheme has deservedly won our Project of the Week title.

The resort-and-residences complex is looking forward to a 2022 debut when guests will finally be able to visit this new coastal hideaway located just 15 minutes from the airport. We find out more.

Oceanfront luxury in the Cayman Islands

Spanning 67 acres at St James Point, Mandarin Oriental’s forthcoming retreat benefits from an elevated position overlooking its own stretch of white-sand beach. Landscaped walking and cycling trails will lead guests through the estate, which will soon become home to 100 contemporary guest rooms and suites facing the sea and 89 luxurious branded residences.

The resort will incorporate as many as five restaurants and bars, providing a range of culinary experiences with ocean views, and an onsite farm affording memorable farm-to-table dining opportunities.

The full Mandarin Oriental experience

In terms of wellness, the sprawling Spa at Mandarin Oriental will be joined by a fitness centre, tennis courts and several outdoor swimming pools, plus a beach cub offering a range of activities including water sports. On top of this, the resort’s flexible indoor and outdoor event space is being designed to host weddings and other celebratory events, as well as business functions.

The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, which provide access to the resort’s facilities, aim to be the most select properties on the island. In addition to offering Mandarin Oriental service, they’ll come complete with dedicated owner facilities.

The scheme is being created through a collaboration between project owner Melkonian Capital Management, development partner RAL Companies, and architects Andrew Gibb and Hart Howerton. It’s currently expected to open in the second quarter of 2022.
