Project of the Week: Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort

by | 10 Aug 2020 | Projects

Our latest Project of the Week, Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort, sees IHG introduce its luxury boutique brand Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to an idyllic Caribbean island.

Grenada is gearing up for the opening of a new five-star resort. We take a closer look at the plush Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort, a mix of guest accommodation and private residences for purchase.

Kimpton in the Caribbean

On course to become Kimpton’s sophomore property in the Caribbean, Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort enjoys an enviable beachside location on Grenada, the southernmost of the Windward Islands.

Situated on a verdant bluff overlooking the Grand Anse Beach, voted one of the world’s best beaches by Condé Nast Traveller, the hotel is set to open in the final months of 2020, offering 146 keys. 101 of these will be luxury studio rooms, while 45 will be suites. There will also be 12 additional penthouse apartments for private sale.

Speaking in January 2017 when the property was first announced, Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, said: “Ever since we gave the Caribbean its first taste of Kimpton with our Seafire Resort + Spa in Grand Cayman, the region and resorts in particular continue to be areas of focus for our expansion. Grenada offers us the opportunity to further make our mark and introduce Kimpton to an even wider international audience.

“Kimpton Kawana Bay Resort will easily become a sought-after destination for travellers looking to enjoy a luxurious yet laid-back stay experience. We’re thrilled to be working with True Blue Development [the owner and developer of Kawana Bay] and look forward to opening our doors to reveal this stunning cliff-side beachfront retreat.”

Warren Newfield, principal of True Blue Development, added: “Choosing Kimpton as our operating partner was an easy decision for us. We were extremely impressed with Kimpton’s business philosophy and approach, and we share the same vision for the resort and its operating style.”

A slice of paradise on the Spice Island

Fondly known as the Spice Island, Grenada is famed for its tropical climate, cool Caribbean breezes and exotic vegetation. The new hotel will take inspiration from local history and culture, while the Kawana Bay moniker comes from the nickname that settlers gave to the indigenous leatherback turtle around 1300 AD.

Guests will be able to take full advantage of the state-of-the-art amenities found at Kimpton Kawana Bay Resort, which include an infinity pool, chef-driven restaurant, lounge and beach bars, fitness centre, spa and water sports facilities. Many rooms will also enjoy stunning views out over the beach and ocean beyond.
