Our latest Project of the Week title goes to the Oppenheim Architecture-designed Jali Hotel and Residences, which is earmarked for an attractive coastal site in the Balkans.

This stylish hotel-and-residences scheme draws inspiration from the heritage and landscape of Albania’s southern coast.

A reflection of its surroundings

Jali Hotel and Residences is currently in the planning stages, with Oppenheim Architecture attached to oversee the design. The practice’s European and US design principals studied the local architecture and spirit of the land, before distilling it all into an elegant and refined concept.

On completion, this project aims to to reflect the rich vernacular and ecologies found on the site and in the nearby villages of Vuno and Dhermi. In addition to using local materials throughout, the property promises to sit harmoniously within its setting, and be sensitive to everyone’s needs.

A destination for culture and relaxation

According to current plans, the scheme will consist of tightly clustered buildings including the hotel’s beach bungalows and suites, 30 hotel-operated apartments, 41 private villas and 52 private apartments. Its key amenities are to include a world-class spa, fitness suite, beachside club, exclusive rooftop venue, casino and event space.

This sensitive reinterpretation of a traditional Albanian coastal town aims to grow the area’s international profile and tourism economy, with much of the focus on the site’s town square, featuring space for socialising, shopping, unwinding and indulging in local cuisine.

The five-star property is expected to reach completion in 2024.
