Our latest Project of the Week shines a light on this tower hotel adding to the restoration of Charlotte’s historic Carolina Theatre.

The 257-key InterContinental Hotel Charlotte will occupy a new-build tower rising above the restored five-storey theatre with striking new exterior.

Transformation of a historic site

Construction work is now underway, with the completion date yet to be announced, for this major theatre and hotel project combining the restoration of the historic building and the construction of a new ‘jewel box’ facade and tower.

Valor Hospitality and Salter Brothers are developing this site in partnership with SB&G Group, Foundation for the Carolinas and IHG Hotels & Resorts. DLR Group is responsible for the site’s architectural design and Meyer Davis Studio is designing the interiors.

The restoration of this theatre and construction of its accompanying five-star InterContinental hotel add to the significant development works transforming North Tryon.

A new community space

The Caroline Theatre was first built in 1927 and has been out of use since it closed in the ‘70s. The theatre is now being brought back to its former glory while also being made into a community space.

The old facade of the theatre is being rebuilt and on completion will open up to a new, two-storey, glass enclosed lobby described as a jewel box. This grand lobby will provide the space for a range of events and performances.

The forthcoming InterContinental Hotel Charlotte will add to this community offering with a range of guest and public spaces fitting in with the InterContinental brand.
