Set to open in 2026, Hygge Hotel combines HWKN’s architectural vision with AI collaboration

In a region known for architectural excellence, the Hygge Hotel—our latest Project of the Week here at THP.News—offers something different: warmth, intimacy, and an invitation to slow down. Designed by HWKN in collaboration with STW Technical Services, this 60,000-square-foot hotel rising from Dubai’s World Islands reimagines the Scandinavian idea of hygge as a new kind of hospitality experience.

Far more than a design theme, hygge shapes every detail of the hotel’s architecture and interiors. Scheduled to open in 2026, the 95-room hotel is being developed by The Heart of Europe Dubai and represents a creative partnership between designers, engineers, and even artificial intelligence.

A philosophy built into form

From the outside, the Hygge Hotel has a grounded presence. Its facade features fluted glazed terracotta columns that widen toward the top, paired with porcelain bands and large terraces. These elements create a clear visual transition from the ground to the upper floors.

The rooftop features a glass pool that connects all of The Heart of Europe’s City Hotels, providing a shared space for guests.

Inside, a central multi-level lobby runs through the building, connecting guest rooms with communal areas designed for dining, conversation, and programmed events. The layout is intended to promote both relaxation and social interaction.

AI as co-creator

What differentiates the Hygge Hotel is the role of artificial intelligence in its design. AI was involved throughout the process, from initial concepts to material selection. Instead of relying on a standard brand framework, the team used AI tools to examine how the idea of hygge could be expressed in architecture.

The result is a hotel designed to feel both personal and contemporary, developed through one of the most technologically advanced processes in the industry.

Belonging, not branding

Unlike many of Dubai’s hospitality projects known for bold visual statements, the Hygge Hotel takes a different approach, emphasizing comfort, nature, and community. The design prioritizes how spaces function and feel rather than focusing only on appearance.

Located on Dubai’s man-made European-style islands, the hotel is not tied to a specific national identity. Instead, its design is based on a broader goal: creating an environment where guests can feel at home even when traveling.
