Four Seasons Hotels’ mission to transform a private island in Belize into a luxury resort earns our latest Project of the Week title.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Caye Chapel on the intimate private island of Caye Chapel is due for completion in Q2 2024.

New community

The hotel group is working with real estate firm Florida Golf & Beaches to create a luxury destination for both residence owners and leisure travellers, with approximately 24 private beach and oceanfront residences, 104 guestrooms and suites and overwater bungalows on the island’s northern edge.

The island will feature amenities including an 18-hole golf course designed by well known professional golfer Greg Norman in consultation with Lorena Ochoa. A marina and private airstrip will also serve the high end visitors’ needs.

Conservation considerations

Caye Chapel is located in the Belize archipelago in the Caribbean Sea, adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage designated Belize Barrier Reef System, the largest reef system in the northern hemisphere.

The development takes this delicate ecosystem into consideration with Four Seasons commitment to sustainability throughout the project. This will also be demonstrated with the construction of an onsite Fabien Cousteau nature and conservation institute.

Furthermore, just 10% of the island will house structural development, while the remainder will be set aside for preservation and conservation efforts, nature reserves and outdoor experiences.

Luxury leisure

The resort will offer onsite sports such as a nine-hole reversible course with a practice range that converts to a par three course, golf academy, putting course and full-service clubhouse restaurant.

In addition, a full-service spa and a wellness hub called the Sunrise Sanctuary will be available for guests, complete with a yoga and meditation studio located on a private alcove, a reflection pool, an indoor-outdoor gym, a sports court and an observatory for stargazing.

Sea-to-table

Dining will consist of a waterfront sushi and omakase restaurant, an all-day seafood joint, a sea-to-table eatery and a bar with top-shelf wine and spirits. Guests can also expect poolside fare, cabana service and in-residence dining.

Children on the island can visit the Fort, a kids-focused education and adventure centre, with access to scuba school, off-island wildlife treks, an interactive water park and organic gardening classes.
