Project of the Week: Four Seasons Hotel Osaka
by Lauren Jade Hill | 23 Aug 2021 | Project of the Week, Projects
Part of an under-construction mixed-use scheme in Japan’s economic powerhouse, the 2024-opening Four Seasons Hotel Osaka is the latest winner of our Project of the Week title.
Located in a 49-storey tower, set to be one of the tallest buildings in Osaka, the forthcoming Four Seasons property will combine the work of world-renowned designers with a five-star hotel experience.
A major redevelopment
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is working in partnership with Tokyo Tatemono and Hotel Properties on the development of the One Dojima Project in Osaka. This major mixed-use scheme, which began construction on 1 August 2020, is expected to open in 2024 with a total floor area of around 85,000 sq m, featuring residences by Brillia, a meeting hall and a highly anticipated Four Seasons hotel.
The development is located near to several waterways in an area known as a significant commercial centre due to it being home to Dojima Rice Exchange, the world’s first futures exchange.
Guests staying at the new Four Seasons hotel will have easy access to the nearby art district Nakanoshima, where Nakanoshima Art Museum Osaka is slated to open in early 2022.
A design destination
This hotel is being created by a team of world-renowned designers including Gwenael Nicolas of Curiosity, Shinichiro Ogata of Simplicity and Yasuhiro Koichi of Design Studio Spin. The overall building is the brainchild of Nikken Sekkei, with master architect Otani working on a graceful concept that calls to mind the image of a sail.
Four Seasons Hotel Osaka promises sophisticated design and a spacious atmosphere, complete with 175 guestrooms and a wealth of amenities suitable for luxury travellers.
Takenaka Corporation has been tasked with constructing the landmark building.
