The eco-friendly, nature-oriented and strikingly designed Banyan Tree Mandai scheme, which is currently under construction, has won our latest Project of the Week title.

This Banyan Tree complex will be part of a new integrated nature and wildlife destination, which will celebrate biodiversity and sustainability.

Connecting guests with nature

Planned for completion in early 2023, this resort owned by Mandai Park Holdings and operated by Banyan Tree will bring guests closer to the extraordinary natural assets found in Singapore’s Mandai precinct. The creation of Banyan Tree Mandai will provide an opportunity for travellers to stay in full-service accommodation on the doorstep of Singapore’s wildlife parks for the very first time.

The varied experiences on offer will include exploring the precinct’s five wildlife parks, nature-themed indoor attractions and public green spaces, and taking part in activities that give a deeper understanding of the environment from guided walks to movie screenings.

Eco-friendly design

Designed by Wow Architects, the resort will embrace eco-friendly and sustainable design and construction practices, with this philosophy then carried through to the operations side.

Banyan Tree Mandai is located within 4.6 hectares of land at the eastern end of the Mandai precinct. It’s being designed with due consideration for the inherent value of its surroundings and according to the principles outlined by an Environmental Impact Assessment, carried out for the wider Mandai rejuvenation project.

Guests will be able to stay in standard and family rooms within low-rise structures, as well as elevated cabins and treehouses, and all of this low-intensity development will be built around existing vegetation. There’ll be 338 rooms in total.

Conservation initiatives being undertaken include protection of the flora, the addition of a 15 m strip of land along the edge of the Upper Seletar Reservoir, and the control of light and noise emissions.

Designed to be as sustainable as possible, this under-construction resort will reduce and reuse energy, waste and water wherever possible – and utilise energy-efficient building design techniques.
