The development of Australia’s first AC Hotel, which will be housed within a new 40-storey mixed-use skyscraper called Normanby, is our latest Project of the Week.

Excitement is building as Australians look forward to the launch of AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank. We find out more the landmark scheme that has just been crowned TOPHOTELNEWS’ Project of the Week.

Mixed-use masterpiece in Melbourne

The Australian city of Melbourne is eagerly awaiting the completion of the hotel, which is set to open in the middle of 2021. It represents a key part of the AU$200 million Normanby development in Fisherman’s Bend, which will feature 200 AC Hotel rooms and 100 apartments.

Local developer Capital Alliance appointed Crema Group to build Normanby in July 2019.

Speaking at the time, Crema Constructions director Christian Crema said: “Crema is looking forward to working with reputable groups like Capital Alliance and Marriott in delivering to the expectation and high standard of their projects. With our in-house concrete and production operations nearby, we will be delivering on programme and quality expectations too.”

Mohan Du, founder and chief executive of Capital Alliance, added: “Not only are we bringing the first AC Hotels by Marriott to Australia, but this will be the first hotel in the entire precinct. This appointment strengthens our view that although economic fundamentals have drastically changed for the industry, there is still life for projects that are carefully thought through.”

A new dawn at Fisherman’s Bend

The Fisherman’s Bend development is being heralded as a milestone in urban renewal in Australia. As such, Marriott International’s AC Hotels brand feels like the perfect fit; AC Hotels bills itself as “the perfectly precise hotel”, and champions strict design standards prioritising attention to detail so that nothing is superfluous to requirements.

Interestingly, all of the 100 one-, two- and three-bedroom private homes will be able to access the AC Hotel’s services and amenities. These include concierge, infinity pool, gym, restaurant, bar and room service, along with collaborative areas such as the AC Lounge co-working space.
