Project in focus: Turing Locke, Cambridge

Hospitality group Edyn is set to expand its Locke aparthotel brand into Cambridge, with the launch of a 180-key scheme designed by DRMM.

The new boutique property, earmarked for a site that forms part of the University of Cambridge’s development of Eddington, is due to open in late 2021.

A new community hub

This latest addition to the Locke portfolio is expected to form a key element of the first phase of the university’s development of Eddington.

On completion, the mixed-use destination will be home to 3,000 new residential units, retail, a community and performance arts centre, sports pitches and parkland, as well as a doctor’s surgery, school, student accommodation and research facilities. In addition to this new Locke aparthotel, Edyn will also develop and operate a 150-room Hyatt Centric property.

The CEO of Edyn, Stephen McCall, believes that Eddington will become a thriving destination that complements Cambridge’s rich and diverse community, with Locke at the centre of that ecosystem.

Lifestyle and design

The new Turing Locke Cambridge Eddington, designed by Sterling Prize-winning architectural studio DRMM, will span an area of 18,814 sq m. Altogether, it’ll comprise 180 keys – ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom apartments – plus a restaurant, a coffee shop and a cocktail bar, a co-working space, meeting rooms, retail and event space.

This new location is the latest example of Edyn’s ambitious expansion plan, which sees the group targeting gateway cities across Europe.
