Copenhagen’s new Ørestad Syd Hotel, designed by Kant Architects, promises to provide an eco-friendly place for travellers to stay on the island of Amager.

This newbuild property will combine three low-rise towers with architectural elements celebrating the natural world. We take a closer look.

Bringing nature inside

Ørestad Syd Hotel will be located where Ørestad Syd borders Kalvebod Fælled at the point that the metro has its terminus.

Covering an area of around 17,000 sq m, the property will consist of three towers: one will encompass nine floors, the second will have eight floors, and the third will incorporate just six floors. These towers will be built around a large covered atrium housing the inner courtyards and drawing the sun in through a large skylight.

A home away from home

Visitors will access the 450 guest rooms via balconies that provide an overview of all the property’s floors, in a striking departure from traditional enclosed hotel corridors. The base of the hotel will house the foyer, restaurant, fitness centre and swimming pool, while abundant greenery will feature throughout the courtyards and rise majestically to the scheme’s upper levels.

This hotel aims to embody a homely feel, encouraging guests to stay longer, while the greenery doubles as a screen to add more privacy. The innovative scheme is being developed through a collaboration between investor Artha Kapitalforvaltning and developer Falk-Rønne & Kierkegaard.

An opening date has not yet been confirmed.
