Project in focus: Meliá White Sands Hotel & Spa, Cape Verde
We take a look at the highly anticipated Meliá White Sands Hotel & Spa resort, currently taking shape on the picturesque shores of Boa Vista.
An exciting newbuild beachfront retreat, Meliá White Sands Hotel & Spa will support the tourism industry on Cape Verde’s largest but least populated island.
An enviable coastal location
Developed by The Resort Group in partnership with Meliá Hotels International, the under-construction White Sands Hotel & Spa scheme overlooking Boa Vista’s beautiful Santa Monica Beach is steadily coming to fruition.
As a destination, Boa Vista pairs world-renowned beaches with a fusion of African and Portuguese culture; it’s the most eastern island in Cape Verde and spans just 620 sq km, yet still manages to squeeze in 55 km of white sandy beaches. The Meliá development is one of six projects that The Resort Group has planned for the island.
Once open, the resort will benefit from a Cape Verde government road initiative to improve the island’s road network, which will connect the site to Boa Vista Airport.
Adults-only and family-oriented options
This new 835-key scheme will comprise a range of villas and suites in an area split into family and adults-only complexes to ensure all guests enjoy service that’s tailored to their individual needs.
The family-oriented section will encompass two separate children’s pools, a baby pool, a kids club and an adventure playground, as well as a wet bar and a poolside restaurant. The main hotel building, meanwhile, will house fine-dining restaurants and a collection of bars, including a relaxed lobby bar, champagne bar and sports bar.
In total, Meliá White Sands Hotel & Spa will boast half a dozen restaurants along with the celebrated Gabi Club, six swimming pools, swim-up bars and poolside eateries. Its wellness facilities will include tennis and beach ball courts, plus a fitness centre, water sports centre and luxurious spa.
The resort is currently expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.
