We take a closer look at Fairmont’s efforts to create a five-star hotel in the Balkans on a prime spot overlooking the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Currently under construction, the 200-key Fairmont Smokva Bay Resort draws inspiration from its majestic surroundings.

A highly anticipated destination

Fairmont’s latest outpost, set in the Budva Riviera, is fast becoming a reality within the wider Smokva Bay Resort mixed-use scheme. The project is being designed by a team that includes Tabanlıoğlu Architects, Artprojekt Podgorica and A-TIM Studio to sit harmoniously within the coastal landscape, providing future guests with easy access to this terrain between the medieval towns of Rezevici and Perazica Do.

On completion, Smokva Bay Resort will be Montenegro’s first private gated resort community comprising luxury branded and private residences that immerse visitors in the nature-rich setting. As well as drawing on the coastal environment, it’ll reflect the sophistication of life in the Budva Riviera, taking its cue from the culture and heritage of the area.

Nature-inspired coastal glamour

The Fairmont property here will comprise a hotel with hillside villas and apartments connected by verandas, common spaces and green areas. Guests will have access to central and commercial social infrastructure, from a city square, cultural centres, art galleries and small marinas to beach clubs, restaurants, bars, shops, spa areas and tennis courts.

It’s envisaged that a pretty coastal walk will connect a series of beaches and bathing coves, offering direct access to the sea. The site is also just ten minutes away from historic Sveti Stefan and a one-hour drive from the main international airports of Tivat and Podgorica.

Fairmont Smokva Bay Resort is expected to open in the first quarter of 2023.
