Project in focus: Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu Waterfront, Malaysia
by Lauren Jade Hill | 17 Jul 2021 | Hotel Projects, Projects
Expected to reach completion in 2022, Kota Kinabalu’s under-construction Crowne Plaza hotel will form a key part of an exciting mixed-use waterfront development.
Highlights including a rooftop bar and restaurant, an outdoor pool and waterfront views promise to make this new hotel in Sabah, Borneo an appealing option for both business and leisure travellers.
A prime setting in Kota Kinabalu
Upon opening, Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu Waterfront will host guests amid the high-end residences and dining scene of the city’s vibrant waterfront area. Overlooking a significant promenade, this site offers exceptional sunset views, which guests will be able to enjoy from several onsite venues.
The new hotel is expected to draw people in with its rooftop drinking and dining space, which will be the first of its kind in Kota Kinabalu, along with its outdoor pool, spa and 24-hour fitness centre. Business travellers will be catered for with the inclusion of eight versatile meeting rooms, not least a ballroom holding up to 600 attendees.
Making a mark in Sabah
IHG is developing the 367-key newbuild hotel in partnership with Golden Wave Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Bursa Malaysia-listed Ho Hup Construction Company Berhad. The joint-venture entity is managed by Ho Hup alongside Tribeca Real Estate Asset Management and local shareholders.
Hasegawa & Xavier Associates and DP Architects are working on the property’s architectural design.
Kota Kinabalu has seen significant growth over recent years in terms of business as well as tourism. In this prominent location, the hotel will be able to draw on the appeal of Sabah’s natural beauty, while also providing convenient access to local amenities and visitor sites.
The hotel is currently expected to open in the third quarter of 2022.
