We delve into eye-popping plans to develop a sustainable luxury hotel in a landmark building designed to act as a green lung for the Paris Rive Gauche neighbourhood.

This remarkable project looks set to showcase biophilic design’s capacity to improve city centre living.

An innovative design concept

Property developer Compagnie de Phalsbourg and start-up campus Station F are working together to create 1 Hotel Paris next to Bibliothèque François Mitterrand on Avenue de France. It’ll occupy a daring newbuild designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates and Marchi Architects, which uses unusual construction materials like wood and bronze to spectacular effect.

The proposed building will take a sculptural form reminiscent of the shapes created by natural erosion, enabling light to reach pedestrians on the avenue below. Reflective panels used on the façade, meanwhile, will help further soften the overall impression.

Pushing the boundaries of sustainable luxury

Conceived as a green lung for the hip Paris Rive Gauche district, the property will house a sustainable luxury hotel, 1 Hotel Paris, characterised by an abundance of greenery throughout, spacious open-plan interiors and spectacular views from its floor-to-ceiling windows. The latest outpost of SH Hotels & Resorts’ 1 Hotels brand will feature 140 rooms, a restaurant, coworking space, a state-of-the-art gym and several outdoor terraces.

Horticulture & Jardins is acting as landscape designer on this one-of-a-kind project, which is expected to complete in Q2 2023.
