Procurement Consultant HPG International (MEA) accelerates the soft launch of Queen Elizabeth 2

Just shy of completing 50 years, the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) continues to make its mark in history. Much like its namesake monarch, the ocean liner is still in service. Docked at the Mina Rashid port in Dubai, the QE2 recently celebrated the completion of Phase 1, establishing it as a refurbished floating hotel.
QE2 Shipping LLC is owned and operated by Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation Hotels (PCFC Hotels), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dubai Ports Customs and Free Zone Corporation. The floating hotel has 224 guestrooms, spa, pool deck, casino, theatre and multi-outlet F&B offering.
However, with over 2,000 line items such as linen, kitchen equipment and F&B table top products still pending delivery, the opening date almost did not go as scheduled. Global Procurement Consultants for FF&E and OS&E, HPG International Middle East & Africa (HPGI MEA) were brought on board three months prior to QE2’s soft launch.
Darryl Rego, Managing Director of HPG International Middle East & Africa commented, “The larger challenge was time itself. The industry average for a project of this scale is approximately 12 to 14 months.”

The QE2 is now due to celebrate its Phase 2 opening in October 2018.
