Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront has opened following the US$15 million renovation of an existing hotel, which focused on introducing a more modern look and service offering.

This new outpost for IHG’s Holiday Inn brand places guests on Hayden Island by the banks of the Columbia River.

A historic location

The 320-room Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront, which has just celebrated its grand reopening, is positioned on the edge of Portland overlooking the waterfront to Vancouver, Washington. Following a multi-year, US$15 million refurbishment programme, the reimagined property’s now home to 320 sleek rooms with balconies and an array of new amenities.

The property was originally built in 1978 on the site of the popular Jantzen Beach Amusement Park. It reflects this history through the inclusion of stylish décor, with historic photos of the park also on display.

Dani Boss, general manager of Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront, said: “We are thrilled to bring new life into this property once again. Creating the new Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront has allowed us to bring a world-class, quality brand to guests visiting the area.

“Every detail throughout the hotel, from its unique design to the dishes you’ll find on the restaurant’s menu, pay tribute to the community and the property’s history. We are proud to provide guests with an exceptional experience on their next visit to Portland and the Columbia River.”

Venues for business and leisure

Highlights of the hotel include new restaurant and bar Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill, where classic dishes with local flair like beer-battered cod and chips are served.

Both celebratory and corporate functions can be hosted in 41,000 sq ft of event space, not least the largest pillar-free hotel ballroom in Oregon at 18,000 sq ft. Each space comes with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view, while wedding ceremonies can also be held on the boat dock and deck.

Raul Ortiz, vice president of Holiday Inn and Even Hotels brand management, said: “For decades, this property has provided exceptional hospitality for travellers and we are thrilled to have it join the Holiday Inn brand.

“Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront is one of the largest Holiday Inns in the Northwest, providing excellent meeting space, comfortable guestrooms, scenic views, access to the water, and its location is perfect for both business guests and weekend leisure travellers. The property’s extensive renovation is outstanding, and with a modernised new look and offerings, it is sure to maintain its legacy of providing an extraordinary experience guests will enjoy for many years to come.”
