Paramount Hotel Haiyan more than just another movie-themed hotel: HBA’s Katie Yang [Video]
The Paramount Hotel Haiyan, a new-generation hotel
Paramount Hotel Haiyan, designed by HBA, was a finalist at the Creative Spark design competition in TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR Singapore
Set to open in Q4 2019, the Paramount Hotel Haiyan bears the grand honour of being the first Paramount Hotel in Asia, and it certainly does not disappoint.
Billed as a “new-generation hotel”, the property is inspired by the movies but shies away from being a cheesy, movie-themed hotel.
Instead, it channels all the glitz and glamour you would expect from the Golden Age of Hollywood, but with an Asian twist.
Katie Yang, Project Director at HBA, the design firm responsible for the hotel’s interiors, said, “We didn’t want to create a movie-themed hotel, we wanted it to be a journey of experience”.
Paramount Haiyan in all its theatrical glory
Katie Yang’s concept of the hotel as a “journey of experience” has manifested itself in an exciting and unique offering that will wow guests as soon as they enter the hotel.
Yang says this has been achieved by incorporating different technologies that stimulate guests’ visual perception in all areas of the interior design. HBA has done this by giving each area a singular identity through a different theme.
Yang says designing these characterful areas was one of her personal highlights during the project, stating, “We tried to give every area its own very strong character, and you can see that in the different colours we used.”
The Chinese restaurant takes its cues from the Chinese opera, reflecting fabrics and other details and elements from operatic costumes in the interior design.
New-generation Hollywood hotel in Asia
The pool area channels the spirit of California with palm trees swinging over the blue waters.
Hollywood shines in the all-day dining area which is inspired by the movie Roman Holiday, and the speakeasy brings guests back to the prohibition era and lets them live out the decadent and hedonistic life of the 1920s.
