Panama City’s historic district welcomes Hotel La Compañía
The new Hotel La Compañía is now welcoming guests in Panama City’s Casco Antiguo historic district.
As a part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, this luxury boutique hotel pairs a reflection of Panama City’s historic grandeur with modern flair.
A historic location
Hyatt has announced the opening of Hotel La Compañía as the first hotel to open within the The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Central America. This property offers a new level of luxury hospitality in a historic area known for its dining, nightlife and cultural tours.
The hotel reflects Panama’s history through its design and art collection, as well as culinary experiences. The building itself was originally built in 1688 as a Jesuit convent and now reflects French Colonial, Spanish Colonial and Beaux-Arts periods through its architecture.
“The opening of Hotel La Compañía marks the end of a seven-year restoration project where expert historians, craftsmen and architects from around the world came together to bring a story-worthy experience to our region,” said general manager Fidel Reyes.
“We look forward to welcoming guests visiting Panama for both business and pleasure to experience our guest rooms, restaurants and cultural programming.”
Telling the stories of its locale
The hotel references the cultural influences of the historic neighbourhood it’s a part of, as well as paying homage to the construction of the Panama Canal. Altogether, the property spans almost one block with its four buildings and the ruins of a 300-year-old church enveloping a courtyard with gardens for alfresco dining.
Guests are accommodated in 88 guest rooms split across three wings paying tribute to the cultural time periods influencing the property: The French Colonial wing, Spanish Colonial wing and the American wing, opening in the coming weeks, taking inspiration from the early 20th century. Each guest room has a balcony with views over the courtyard or Casco Antiguo.
The hotel’s chef-driven culinary experience highlights locally sourced ingredients across a variety of restaurants. Signature dining options include the contemporary French restaurant 1739 with a private dining room and 300-year-old wine cellar, as well as the theatrical speakeasy Hari’s, rooftop lounge Capella and lobby Exilio Bar.
Amenities within the property then include an intimate rooftop spa with four treatment rooms and panoramic rooftop pool. Cultural programming connects guests with the city.
