A powerhouse brand within the Accor portfolio, Novotel continues to grow around the world, while maintaining its presence in Europe

Accor’s Novotel brand is set for a busy year of openings across Europe, filling in its coverage with launches in new destinations.

The Novotel brand was born in 1967, when it became a pioneer in offering guests affordable comfort, launching at a time when many hotels were still unbranded across key European markets. Since then, Novotel has become a brand that has global recognition, with more than 600 hotels open in more than 60 countries.

A European favourite

More than half of all currently opened Novotels are in Europe, with a presence in 24 countries across the continent. Some of the most recent additions include Novotel Valencia Lavant, located close to the Palacio de Congresos in the Spanish city. It has 370 rooms over 11 floors, with a rooftop pool bar and terrace.

Overall, Novotel has more than 180 hotels in its signed pipeline. And among those due to open in the coming months is Novotel Malta Sliema, launching the brand on the island. The 293 room hotel is in easy reach of the capital, Valletta, and features a rooftop pool, extensive wellness centre and conference rooms.

Also preparing to open is the brand’s first hotel in Croatia, Novotel Zagreb. A new, 170 room hotel, it is just 20 minutes from the airport, and has facilities including a garden and terrace that will provide views over the capital – the perfect place to wind down, after a busy day.

“Novotel’s strategic expansion across Europe underscores our commitment to the brand’s growth and innovation,” said Philippe Bijaoui, Accor’s regional chief development officer for its premium, midscale and economy brands. “Our strategy centres on offering versatile spaces that seamlessly integrate business and leisure, enabling guests to relax, connect and focus on what matters. As we grow, Novotel remains dedicated to shaping the future of travel with a balanced, experience-led approach that resonates with modern travellers”.

Novotel’s established markets are also seeing the addition of further hotels. In Germany, a new hotel upcoming is Novotel Hamburg HafenCity, with 163 rooms, which will join the 26 Novotels already open in Germany, launching later in 2025.

And in the home market of France, Accor will be adding another Novotel in Paris. Novotel La Déf Nanterre will open in the summer, in the city’s La Defense area, offering 170 rooms, and meeting and events spaces, along with a stylish restaurant and bar.

Opportunities to expand in Asia

As a brand with a global footprint, Novotel is also rolling out across Asia. In China, construction work is under way on Novotel Chengdu Lige, Novotel Xiamen Douyin and Novotel Xi’an Jinghe New City. And at Talent Plaza in Changzhou, a Novotel hotel, and Novotel branded residences will be combined in a new development.

India, too, is a focus for growth. Projects under development include Novotel Bengaluru, plus hotels in Indore and Bhopal.
