New Travelodge hotel lined up for Sydney

Plans have been unveiled to build a 100-room Travelodge hotel at Westmead, Australia’s largest health and innovation precinct.

TFE Hotels and Drill Management Pty Ltd have struck a deal to create the much-needed new hotel. We take a look at what this project will offer.

Contemporary design features

The newly announced scheme will form part of Sydney’s multimillion-dollar West Grove development at the gateway to Westmead Health Project.

TFE Hotels’ chief executive officer Antony Ritch said: “Not only will the Travelodge Westmead debut a fresh new interior design with warm timber and earthy tones. But, in partnership with the West Grove development, it will deliver long-term benefits as the thriving Westmead community continues to grow.”

External features will include an appealing landscaped courtyard space hosting restaurants, cafes and bars. Design studio Chada is in charge of the interiors, promising simple yet stylish decor throughout the property, including the rooms, sixth-level lobby, eating area and bar.

“Chada had studied the market mix and are committed to providing our guests with hotels rooms they’ll want to spend time in, and flexible relaxation and workspaces for modern travellers,” Ritch added.

Serving a thriving community

The property will provide temporary accommodation for the hospital and medical sectors, as well as nearby businesses. Its closeness to Westmead Hospital should also make it a convenient, mid-level option for patients and their families when looking for a place to stay nearby.

Mark Hovey, CEO of Drill Pty Ltd, said: “Drill is the first to introduce this option within the Westmead Health Precinct, so it fills an important gap within the overall district offering. At the moment, if you are family living outside Greater Sydney, and your child or other family member is transferred to Westmead, your only options for hotel accommodation are 15 minutes away. At West Grove, you will be just metres away.”

Construction is set to start in 2021, with the hotel opening in 2023.
