Radisson Hotel Group is expanding its presence in Spain after signing a deal to rebrand an existing property near the world-famous Sagrada Família basilica.
A hotel in Barcelona’s Eixample district is set to embark upon an exciting new era.
Transforming a prominent hotel
Radisson Hotel Group has signed up to rebrand the existing Hotel Barcelona 1882, which is located just 450 m away from Spain’s most-visited landmark, the Sagrada Família basilica, in the Eixample district. Radisson Blu Hotel, Barcelona Sagrada Familia is expected to open in spring 2022.
Elie Younes, global chief development officer for Radisson Hotel Group, said: “Radisson Blu celebrates ten consecutive years as the largest upper-upscale brand in Europe thanks to the trust of our partners and the loyalty of our guests.
“This fantastic hotel further cements the brand’s leading position in this segment. The property marks our tenth hotel with Union Investment across Europe and we look forward to our continued successful relationship. Southern Europe is a key focus market where we anticipate significant scale in the coming few years.”
Valerie Schuermans, vice president of business development for Radisson Hotel Group, added: “This signing marks an important moment for our company, establishing our first hotel in Barcelona – such a cosmopolitan and inspiring city – and at the same time strengthening our partnership with Union Investment.”
A prime location
The Radisson Blu-branded hotel will accommodate guests across 182 rooms, including two junior suites. This accommodation will be joined by a cosy lobby bar and a light, airy restaurant, as well as a fitness room and 120 sq m of meeting space.
Undoubtedly, the property’s highlight is its impressive rooftop pool and terrace, which commands views over the basilica. The property also boasts Leed Gold green building certification.
The hotel is situated within walking distance of Passeig de Gràcia and Plaça Catalunya, just 2 km from Parc Güell, and is easily accessible from the Sagrada Família metro station. In addition, guests can take advantage of underground parking during their stay.
Andreas Löcher, head of Investment Management Hospitality at Union Investment, said: “Barcelona is one of Europe’s most attractive hotel markets for investors with high barriers to entry.
“This transaction sees Union Investment bringing the Radisson Blu hotel brand to Barcelona, once again demonstrating its expertise in proactive deal structuring in the hotel sector. We are pleased to team up with Radisson Hotel Group and capitalise on our relationship.”
