Marriott Caribbean and Latin America is inviting guests to experience their hotels and resorts before they book by using new augmented reality technology. We take a look inside this new user experience and the “Portal to Paradise” mobile app.

Exotic locations at your fingertips

Holidaymakers are often sold on a vacation by tantalising photos and videos of a white, sandy beach, or a crystal clear swimming pool. Now Marriott Caribbean and Latin American Resorts are enticing guests with a new and improved take on the alluring holiday snap. Their new mobile app is called Portal to Paradise, and invites customers to explore their idyllic resorts from their smartphone. Marriott is often the pioneers of innovative new technology in the hotel industry, and this move puts them ahead of the game once more. Guests can use the app to discover their next island paradise, beachfront resort or luxury jungle getaway.

Immersive experience

The Portal to Paradise uses augmented reality technology to bring guests right into the heart of Marriott Caribbean and Latin America Resorts’ properties. Eight stunning resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean have been chosen by Marriott to showcase the augmented reality immersive experience. Each hotel can be explored by potential guests by a “walk-through”, allowing them to virtually visit the resort. 360-degree views of the hotel can be appreciated from the app, giving the user the sensation that they are actually standing in the middle of the hotel looking around them. Each hotel has six scenes that can be uncovered by guests, from pool areas to beaches, and restaurants to guest rooms.

Caribbean dreams with Marriott

Diana Plazas, Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Digital of Marriott Caribbean and Latin America, says, “With the Portal to Paradise app, we want consumers to be able to explore places that either they might not have previously considered, or ones they’ve always been interested in seeing, and in a first, users only need their iPhone, and no secondary technology or device, to ‘visit’ eight of our beautiful resorts in some of the Caribbean and Mexico’s most sought-after locations.” The hotels that can be explored through the new app are as follows: Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, Marriott Cancun Resort, JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa, Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa, Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort and St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino. The app launched on June 19th and will be operational until August 15th, and people who download the app will be entered into a draw to win a holiday at one of the featured resorts.
