A stellar design team that includes Foster + Partners, Cheng Chung Design and SWA Group will help Accor and Xiamen Airlines create a 31-floor landmark hotel in south-east China.

The first Fairmont hotel in China’s Fujian province promises to be a spectacular affair.

A new flagship for Fairmont

Widely considered an economic powerhouse, Xiamen is among the fastest developing cities in China. Now, Accor has signed a deal with Xiamen Airlines to establish a Fairmont hotel here that satisfies the growing demand for high-end accommodation from domestic and international travellers.

“We envision the Fairmont Xiamen becoming a global star in our renowned flagship line-up that includes such landmarks as Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, The Savoy in London, The Plaza in New York and the Fairmont in San Francisco,” said Gary Rosen, CEO of Accor in Greater China.

“The addition of the Fairmont Xiamen continues the momentum Accor has built over the years in China and our development goal of prime locations in key destinations. Furthermore, we are incredibly proud to be the first international hospitality group to bring a new luxury hotel to the market with Xiamen Airlines, a leading aviation innovator with which we share common values and vision for sustainability.”

The creation of a landmark property

Acclaimed designers have been brought onboard to bring the property to life. Foster + Partners will serve as architect on the mixed-use project, while hospitality design specialist Cheng Chung Design will oversee interior design and SWA Group will lead the urban landscape design.

Spanning 31 floors, Fairmont Xiamen will be part of the Cross Strait Financial Center in the new Wutong business zone of Xiamen Island’s northeast Huli district. This places the proposed hotel within ten minutes of the International Conference and Exhibition Center, 15 minutes of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and 30 minutes of Xiamen North Railway Station.

“Establishing Fairmont Xiamen with Accor brings one of the most luxurious hotel brands to the heart of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone,” said Zhao Dong, chairman of Xiamen Airlines. “We expect the partnership will launch us into a new level of convenient travel service from air, land and stay.

“Our sustainability vision aligns well with Accor and Fairmont Hotel. As the ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals, partnering with a hospitality group that is on the forefront of CSR [corporate social responsibility] programmes is important, and we believe together we can increase engagement across the corporate landscape as well as for our individual guests and passengers.”
