Combining their knowledge of glass production with a use of natural materials and the latest technologies, Nathan Allan achieves one of a kind results, which has resulting in loyal and long lasting relationships with repeat clients over the years.
Nathan Allan is experienced in working in a range of sectors, from hospitality to retail and commercial, yet every installation is individual and responds to the particular needs and desires of the client. One recently completed project was a commission by design firm Rockwell Group, client of French jeweler Mauboussin, to create a feature glass wall that would run through three floors of the jewelry store. The solution chosen was one that echoed the prize pieces on display – Crackle Glass, the surface of which is reminiscent of the surface of a diamond. The laminated panel sandwiches a fissured substrate panel which allows light to pass through while having the appearance of fractured glass.
In another project for a university building in New York, Nathan Allan worked with Cannon Design to design a feature staircase for the science faculty. The company also produces architectural glass suitable for stair treads, and for this project, their Glass Sandpaper product was chosen because of its unique pin-dot pattern and semi-opaque finish. The treads are anti-slip and waterproof, and meet safety standards for indoor or outdoor conditions.
For the new Tiffany & Co. retail store in Shanghai, Nathan Allan used their opaque Cathedral glass to create shimmering backdrops into which display units are set. The overall effect is one of elegance and opulence, perfectly in line with the Tiffany brand, and this particular choice of glass panel is able to be combined with backlighting to create a feature out of the walls as well as illuminating the interior spaces.
