It’s been eight years in the making, but Four Seasons Hotel Madrid has finally launched, complete with the city’s biggest spa and a new dining concept from three-Michelin-starred chef Dani García.

Following an ambitious restoration of a collection of historic buildings in the heart of the Spanish capital, Four Seasons Hotel Madrid has started welcoming guests at last.

An icon of luxury in Madrid

The first Four Seasons property in Spain, the 200-room hotel and 22 private residences have been conceived in partnership with global infrastructure group OHL and real estate investment company Mohari Hospitality.

“Four Seasons Hotel Madrid began with a visionary plan by our owner-partner OHL to unite and breathe new life into a collection of historic buildings in the heart of Madrid,” said Christian Clerc, president, global operations, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. “Together with recent partners Mohari Hospitality, the result is a modern luxury experience in a magnificently restored property – the perfect debut for Four Seasons in Spain.”

In addition to its convenient direct access to La Galería de Canalejas, the soon-to-open luxury shopping centre, the hotel is located just a few steps away from Kilómetro Cero (the central point of the entire country) and within walking distance of some of Madrid’s top sites. These include the sprawling 300-acre Retiro Park and prominent museums like the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.

“OHL is proud to have such a prestigious partner as Four Seasons for our project,” noted José Antonio Fernández Gallar, OHL’s second vice-chairman and chief executive officer. “We are convinced that its presence will be key in the positioning of Centro Canalejas Madrid as the new icon of luxury in our country.”

Mark Scheinberg, founder of Mohari Hospitality, added: “Despite the challenging circumstances, we’re sure that Centro Canalejas, and its seven beautifully reconceptualised historic buildings, will swiftly become a new social centre for the city of Madrid and a second home for local and global visitors alike.”

Historic artefacts and casual fine dining

Inside the property, each of the rooms have views of the city, while the building’s unique architectural details are dressed with over 3,700 restored historic artefacts and contemporary Spanish artworks. Meanwhile, the hotel’s extensive dining offering includes all-day Spanish restaurant El Patio and Isa, a gastro lounge serving Asian tapas with a Spanish inflection.

But the hotel’s crowning glory is without doubt Dani. Located at the top of the building, the Martin Brudnizki-designed dining room is the latest concept from Michelin favourite Dani García. Here, the chef turns fine dining on its head with a concept that encourages a convivial, easygoing and casual atmosphere by serving up a perfectly executed menu focused on his home region of Andalusia.

Soon to open, moreover, will be the city’s biggest spa. This will include a 24-hour fitness centre, eight treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna, a lounge, a salon, a sun terrace, and an adjacent 14-metre swimming pool bathed in natural light.
