The opening date for Norway’s stylish new Moxy hotel, which will be operated by Core Hospitality, has been pushed back from March to May 2021.

Despite a small delay to the launch of Moxy Bergen caused by Norway’s border closures, operator Core Hospitality is optimistic about the upcoming hotel’s prospects.

A unique offering for Bergen

Core Hospitality said that the reason for its confidence is that the Marriott International-affiliated property will boast a unique offering that’s clearly differentiated from the competition, and provide experiential accommodation on the waterfront of Solheimsviken, which is a short distance from the city centre. On top of this, Moxy Bergen will be part of the world’s largest hotel loyalty programme, Marriott Bonvoy.

“We believe the crisis is an accelerant of trends rather than an agent of change,” said Monica Selvik, general manager at Moxy Bergen. “By this, I mean that the trends we were seeing pre-Covid are only accelerated by the crisis; not created by it.

“Hotels should expect to match these demands much quicker now. And for this reason, Moxy Bergen will be unique. Moxy is a lifestyle brand that offers an experiential stay; our large co-working space with café and bar is free for locals to access; we have invested heavily in becoming a leading hotel in sustainability; and the hotel is affiliated with Marriott Bonvoy.”

Moxy’s latest outpost delays debut

Core Hospitality is currently installing the Moxy hotel’s final rooms, and most staff have been hired ahead of the property’s debut, which will now take place on 3 May 2021 instead of March as originally planned.

Moxy Bergen forms part of the growing business district of Solheimsviken and Marineholmen. In this prime setting, the operator reported that the hotel has attracted attention from nearby companies and as a result has ‘already secured several contracts’, giving it further cause for optimism.

“The hotel industry is still struggling, and we have a well-versed understanding of the situation,” concluded Selvik. “But with the vaccines rolling out and as pent-up demand for travel continues to increase, we believe that Moxy Bergen will fare well. I will echo what our CEO said back in July 2020: we as a company and as an industry will come out of this situation stronger than ever.”
