The lucrative hotel industry in Las Vegas, Nevada seems to be working its hardest in order to go green.

This has most recently manifested itself in MGM Resorts International announcing that it has now officially partnered with Invenergy, a Chicago-based company with which MGM Resorts International now has plans to develop a 100 megawatt (MW) solar array, which will ultimately be located 25 miles north of Las Vegas proper.

Meet the MGM-Invenergy Solar Project

This new initiative has been dubbed the MGM-Invenergy Solar Project, and current development plans call for the facility to be opened and operational by late in the year 2020, according to a statement that was recently released by Invenergy.

The way this entire thing will work is that MGM Resorts will buy all of the energy that is being produced by the new facility, and MGM Resorts will then use that energy in order to help power the 13 total properties that that company has located on the Las Vegas Strip.

Ultimately, the new project between MGM Resorts International and Invenergy will consist of roughly 336,000 panels that will be spread across 640 total acres of land. In the end, these many panels will be able to generate enough electricity that they will be able to power a whopping 27,000 homes for as long as one calendar year.

More About Solar Power

Las Vegas, Nevada is, of course, an excellent geographical location for such an ambitious solar energy project as this one, and so it comes as little surprise that a hotel company with a large prescence in that area of the United States would have the location and assets that it needs to pull a project as substantial as this one off.

Solar is actually a growing and thriving industry all throughout the country right now. In fact, the U.S. solar industry installed 10.6 gigawatts of new photovoltaic capacity in 2017, according to a recent study by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association.

What MGM Leadership Is Saying

MGM Leadership had this to say about the new and developing project:

“Protecting the planet is a business imperative for MGM Resorts and it is our responsibility to find innovative ways where we can use clean energy to power our resorts,” , chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, said. “As a company we care deeply about how we use our resources. This array will be a new source of clean energy that will help power our Las Vegas resorts.”

This is essentially a trend in the making. MGM Resorts is the latest in a long line of U.S. businesses turning to renewable energy. Last October, Amazon announced that its biggest wind farm to date was operational. In a statement, the business said that Amazon Wind Farm Texas would add over 1 million MW hours of clean energy to the grid annually. The facility, which is located in Scurry County, has over 100 turbines, each standing more than 300-feet tall.Let’s take a look at a few projects currently underway by MGM Resorts International:BELLAGIO BY MGM BEIJING
