Meliá Hotels International has announced plans to open Meliá Halong Bay in Vietnam, with an expected opening date of 2027.

The signing of this 240-room and 302-apartment hotel consolidates the Spanish hotel group as one of the largest international hospitality companies in the country.

An exceptional location

On opening, Meliá Halong Bay will encompass 240 guestrooms and 302 service apartments, along with a range of amenities, across two towers.

Highlights of this property will include four restaurants and bars, the brand’s signature YHI Spa, an indoor swimming pool and palm-tree-lined outdoor pool with man made islets drawing inspiration from the neighbouring UNESCO World Heritage site. Business travellers will be able to make use of 2,000 sq m of MICE space.

Ignacio Martin, Meliá Hotels International MD for Asia Pacific, said: “Ha Long Bay, and its archipelago of limestone karsts are one of the natural wonders of the world, and a thrilling vantage for our hotel group.

“With this addition to our portfolio our guests can visit popular destinations from north to south and know they’ll receive the Spanish warmth and hospitality that our brand has become famous for wherever they are in the country.”

A growing presence

The new Halong Bay hotel is owned by Hanoi Halong Tourism Company, which is a member of IDS Equity Holdings (IDS) investment company which has a hospitality portfolio across Vietnam.

This property is positioned for access to Halong Bay, which draws visitors from across the world for its picturesque waters featuring more than 1,000 limestone islands.

For Meliá Hotels International, this signing is another milestone in an 18-month journey of rapid expansion across Vietnam. The hotel group has 23 hotels in operation or in the pipeline across the country.

This summer marks the opening of Gran Meliá Nha Trang and upcoming debuts include Sol by Meliá Cam Ranh Bay, Meliá Nha Trang Beach Resort and Meliá Quy Nhon Beach Resort.
