Meliá Hotels International will work with developer Invest Islands to open a new Indonesian luxury resort, complete with spectacular private infinity pools, in 2024.

Bringing Spanish luxury to the Indonesian island of Lombok, this new Gran Meliá resort will provide a space for travellers to disconnect from the pressures of modern life.

Drawing inspiration from the environment

Spanish hotel group Meliá Hotels International has signed a deal to create Gran Meliá Lombok at Torok Bay, nestled between the green hills and the pristine beach. Here, guests will be accommodated in 22 luxury beachside villas and 105 mountainside villas, all featuring private infinity pools and sensational ocean views.

Natural elements from this inspiring location will be integrated into the property’s architectural design, helping to blend the retreat into the surrounding environment.

Overall, the hotel is designed to provide a sanctuary for wellbeing. Guests will be able to try treatments and wellness rituals in the beachside YHI Spa and make use of the onsite fitness centre.

These facilities will be complemented by world-class dining options, highlighting local ingredients, and a spacious lounge with panoramic ocean views. The hotel will also cater for families through a kids’ club offering and activity programme suitable for all ages.

“Our commitment to Indonesia, where we opened our first international hotel more than 35 years ago, is stronger than ever and we are extremely happy to sign this new agreement, an outstanding property that will become a destination resort in itself in Lombok and will further increase the prosperity of the entire community,” said Gabriel Escarrer, vice chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.

A sustainable low-carbon development

Gran Meliá Lombok will become only the second Gran Meliá-branded hotel in Indonesia, joining Gran Meliá Jakarta. It’ll also be Meliá’s 12th hotel in Indonesia, four of which are pending opening.

The ambitious scheme is to be owned by property developer Invest Islands.

“Gran Meliá Lombok is a huge milestone for Invest Islands,” said Jack Brown, who co-founded Invest Islands with Kevin Deisser in 2015. “We are extremely proud to be working with a world leader in hotel operations and one of the key parallels we have with the Meliá brand is a focus on low-carbon developments. Gran Meliá Lombok has a very low density of building and a lot of natural green space.

“Hopefully, this is the start of a great relationship that can continue for many years to come and we look forward to bringing Spanish luxury to Lombok, while respecting the natural environment. We’d also like to thank our investment clients from around the world that have trusted us to add value to the land we are developing.”

Gran Meliá Lombok is scheduled to launch in 2024.
