Marriott International’s independent premium hotel strand, Autograph Collection, is to continue its luxury expansion with a particular focus on the group’s domestic market in the USA.

The collection currently stands at over 260 independent hotels located across 44 countries and territories.

Landmark in sight

According to the TOPHOTELNEWS database, at least 37 high end properties are set to enter the strand over the next few years, likely taking the worldwide site total to around 300.

The extra 6,813 keys suggested by our data means that the Autograph Collection worldwide could reach over 60,000 rooms.

US domination

Looking at the geographical spread of developments, in terms of continents, North America represents 49% of the pipeline, equating to 18 projects. Asia comes in second with 12 sites or 32% of the pipeline, with Europe’s six projects, representing 16%, placing it in third.

For individual countries, the Marriott Group’s home base of the USA is top with 11 hotels, with Georgia being in runners up spot with four sites. The rest of the pipeline is much more diverse, with only one or two projects in the other17 countries represented. Drilling down further into city count, only Georgia’s Tbilisi has more than one project, with just two sites.

American additions

One of the US developments is Asher Adams, Autograph Collection Salt Lake City, which is converting the historic Union Pacific Depot railroad station into a luxury 225-key site.

The project also features a new construction of an attached eight-storey guestroom structure. Guestrooms will include 13 specialty suites located within the historic train station, and complemented by four high-touch food and beverage outlets and 9,600 sq ft of meeting space. The property is due to open in autumn 2024.

Another American addition is Anichi Resort and Spa, which is heading to Dominica in the Caribbean by the end of this year. The 120-room resort will feature a sophisticated, striking design that celebrates the spirit of Dominica and its indigenous people, while amplifying the distinctive features of the island’s topography.

New majority

Of the properties we have in our database, 23 are newbuilds, eight are conversions, four are refurbishments and two are extensions.

Completions peak next year, with 15 scheduled – equating to 41% of the pipeline. A further seven sites will deliver this year, with the same amount arriving in 2024. The remaining eight Autographs are either slated for further in the future or haven’t been delegated an opening date as of yet.

Many TOPHOTELNEWS articles draw on exclusive information from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database. This subscription-based product includes details of thousands of hotel projects around the world, along with the key decision-makers behind them. Please note, our data may differ from records held by other organisations. Generally, the database focuses on four- and five-star schemes of significant scale; tracks projects in either the vision, pre-planning, planning, under-construction, pre-opening or newly opened phase; and covers newbuilds, extensions, refurbishments and conversions.
